TJ Cox Betrays Farmworkers with Support for State’s Incidental Take Permit

Hanford, CA – Today, David Valadao is calling on TJ Cox to stand up against his party leaders and deliver water for Central Valley communities.

After Governor Gavin Newsom issued his damaging incidental take permit decision last week, one that will send valuable water for agriculture into the ocean, a group of California’s federal delegation asked the Governor for a delay considering the vital position California plays in the nation’s food supply chain. Unfortunately, TJ Cox seems more beholden to Bay Area environmentalists and his party leadership than farmers in the Central Valley.

In light of Mr. Cox’s failure of leadership, Valadao issued the following statement:

“More than ever, America is counting on California’s Central Valley farmers to grow the food needed to feed our country.  Meanwhile, Governor Newsom’s Incidental Take Decision will harm farmers’ ability to do that by taking away critical water resources during one of the driest years in recent memories.

Sadly, TJ Cox refuses to stand up for the disadvantaged communities dependent on the water Newsom intends to dump into the ocean. While farm workers spend their days putting food on our plates during a global pandemic, TJ Cox and Gavin Newsom are putting these lives and livelihoods at risk. We cannot afford to have a member of Congress who is afraid to speak up and fight for the basic necessities of life when we need it the most.”
